Please patronize Belknap businesses and organizations
Did you know for a small neighborhood the size of ours, we have nearly 60 unique businesses, organizations, and restaurants? And many have been here for a long, long time. Click the button below for the entire list of businesses.
Several Belknap businesses and organizations have been around more than 50 years.
A good example is Loop Barber Shop, which has been serving customers since 1926. It is Louisville’s oldest barber shop and has been featured on TV and in the newspaper. You’ll step back in time at Loop Barber Shop!
Another Belknap legacy is Bonnycastle Appliance & TV, in business since 1918. Their employees work hard to be an alternative to “big box” stores by providing personal service. They carry all the major brands of electronics too!
Lakeside Swim Club was founded in 1924 in the heart of Belknap on Trevilian Way. The grounds, pools, lake, and quarry area comprise over 3 acres and are enclosed on two sides by 40-foot cliffs. Neighbors who live in the “certificate area” have automatic membership, while residents outside that area must have a certificate sponsor to join. Ten Olympic swimmers have had their starts at Lakeside!
Bellarmine University opened its doors in 1950. Located at the far west end of Belknap between Newburg Road and Norris Place, Bellarmine has grown to become a vibrant community of educational excellence, and it consistently ranks among the nation's best colleges and universities.
What about foodies? Did you know our neighborhood is home to 13 restaurants, cafes, pubs, and bakeries? The list includes Breadworks, Diamond Station, DiOrios Pizza, Domino’s Pizza, Dundee Tavern, Eat-A-Pita, Graeters Ice Cream, Havana Rumba, Heine Bros. Coffee, Jet’s Pizza, Kern’s Korner, Migo, and Subway. Many of these may be in walking distance of your home.
The Dundee Tavern has been a popular hangout for decades by those who are happy to call themselves regulars. It’s now owned by a former regular, Alan Hincks, who returned its focus to sports, beer specials, and a lively atmosphere when he assumed ownership in 2016.
So you see, Belknap meets all your basic needs for daily living: grocery stores, pharmacies, several banks, an urgent medical care center, physical therapy, a plumber, a dentist, law offices, an old-fashioned hardware store, haircut places, a university, and a realtor in case you need to downsize or go bigger.
There’s no reason to ever leave the neighborhood!
